Bound, Buried, but Busy
April 3
JOHN 19:38-42
Our final passage this week focuses on the burial of Jesus Christ. Jesus physically died and was placed in a tomb to decay. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus came to bind Jesus in strips of linen and bury him in Joseph’s tomb. The chapter of Jesus’s earthly life ends here, but even though he is bound and buried, Jesus is still busy.
He’s busy paying for humanity’s sin, conquering Satan and death, and setting captives free. We learn two truths from Joseph and Nicodemus. First, we need courage from God to be publicly committed to him. Joseph and Nicodemus hid their commitment to Christ from the Jews, but we must profess our faith publicly. Second, like Joseph and Nicodemus, we must be committed to caring for the body of Christ.
God, help me to care about your church and to minister to the needs of others in the body of Christ. Help me remain busy with the work of your church. AMEN!
