A Seat at the Table
March 31
MARK 14:12-25
Today’s passage takes us into an intimate setting—the supper table. At the table, revelations are received. At the table, there’s a seat for both the faithful disciples as well as the betrayer. We see that Jesus is hospitable and welcomes everyone to his table. As God’s people we ought to do the same. Jesus institutes a special meal to commemorate the sacrifice he was soon to make for everyone.
Hospitality is inviting everyone to Christ’s table. Hospitality is feasting not only with those who are well but with those who are in need of the Great Physician. Hospitality is bringing humanity together across racial, cultural, class, and contextual boundaries, understanding that the blood of Jesus makes us one. May we be like Jesus and invite as many as we can into fellowship with him.
God, help me to reach across humanity and invite all I can into fellowship and communion with you. AMEN.
