New Life

January 9

Read: HEBREWS 10:11-25

The new covenant breaks open the tidy boxes we keep our religions in. But we spend most of our time trying to get Jesus back in our boxes. The rich young ruler asked, “I’ve followed all the rules. Do I get to go to heaven?” Jesus replies, “It’s not about rules. Come, and follow Me.” Our rules and rituals won’t save our souls or change our hearts. Only the love of Christ will.

Hebrews 10 reveals God’s desire to write true religion—his Law, his will, his love—on our hearts. What was outside of us is now inhabiting us. We have no need of rituals of repentance when Christ’s sacrifice has done for us what we could not do for ourselves—forgive us forever, setting us free from the power of sin and death, and opening us not just to eternal life, but new life right now in the love and grace of God.

That new life is set free to follow Jesus and help bring the kingdom of God’s love on earth as it is in heaven.

Lord Jesus, I humbly ask how I can help grow your kingdom through my life with your love. AMEN.
