A Great Age to Worship

A Great Age to Worship

December 28

Read: LUKE 2:36-40

Some people have the misconception that life slows down in old age. As a chaplain serving a retirement community, I know that our latter years can be times of bustling activity, shenanigans, purpose, and flourishing. The prophet Anna is a great example of a person being fully engaged at any age.

Like other elders in ancient times, Anna could have rested and allowed the community to care for her needs. Instead, she was at the temple constantly, worshiping God and praying. Can you imagine the ways Anna blessed her community through her prayers and faithful example? Not to mention the impact of her testimony about the birth of the Messiah!

What would it look like to live with Anna’s consistent devotion? How might you use your days to the fullest for the Lord, no matter your age?

God of the ages, thank you for a body that is long-lasting and capable of so much good. Help me love and serve you energetically all my days. AMEN.
