Read: PSALM 89:1-4, 19-26
Ethan the Ezrahite penned this psalm to exult God’s hesed, or love, for making a covenant with God’s people and promising to establish a king on David’s throne forever. I still remember one of my seminary professors emphatically stating what a spectacular and extraordinary word hesed is. It is the term that portrays God’s abundant, great, everlasting, and good lovingkindness as shown through redemptive acts, life preservation, and keeping covenantal promises. Humanity does nothing to gain God’s approval or favor to obtain this hesed. Wow!
So during this final week of Advent, let us adore God anew as we worship through Christmas anthems remembering God’s hesed.
Lord Most High, how can I ever praise you for such extravagant love and faithfulness? Teach me, O Lord. AMEN.
