Back to the Future
Read: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-24
“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” (v. 24, NIV).
As I compose this, we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Church worship celebrations and gatherings are taking place online, and there is a lot of uncertainty. When will churches have public worship? When will people return to work? How will schools operate? It’s also been painful. My mom died from the coronavirus over the summer, and we couldn’t be at her side.
Yet in the midst of it all, God is good! I’m imagining my mom dancing hula again. God is good! I’m imagining that by the time you read this, we’ll be preparing to celebrate Christmas with our ‘ohana and friends, either virtually or in our homes, together. God is good.
In his letter, James writes that trials and faith produce perseverance. God is good. Consider how your faith has changed. But one thing we don’t have to imagine, as today’s passage reminds us, is that the one who calls us is faithful today, tomorrow, and forever.
Lord, thank you for your faithfulness. AMEN.
