Don’t Turn Back

Don’t Turn Back

December 9

Read: PSALM 85:1-2, 8-13

“For he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly” (v. 8b, ESV).

In life, we often find ourselves in the same situations over and over again. This is especially true with sin. Just when we think we’ve gotten over a bad habit or behavior, it all too frequently resurfaces in our lives.

One reason this happens is because we neglect God’s word (Psalm 119:11). Moreover, we often haven’t made a decision to let go of our sin and move on. And even if we have, it’s difficult to avoid temptation. So we find ourselves turning back to sin. Remember Lot’s wife, who looked back nostalgically at evil?

As Christians, we need to take this warning seriously. We may have neglected God at times and been forgiven. But now God expects us to move forward in Christ.

Gracious Father, help me to get out of the rut of committing the same sins. Let me meditate on your word and remember your forgiveness. Strengthen me by your Spirit. In Jesus’s name, AMEN.
