The Middle East North Africa region of Serve Globally raised $37,000 recently to enable a partner to provide packages of food to hungry people in Yemen. Civil war in that country has led to what the United Nations has called the “largest humanitarian crisis in the world” for the past three years.
The funds were raised through a one-day event, “MENA Monday,” on October 19. They will provide food to feed families for at least one month, said Jeff Anderson, regional coordinator.
Yemen is located on the southern Arabian peninsula on one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. It is a strategic spot for countries around the world who have supported the warring factions.
Due to the war, 15 million of the nation’s 30.5 million people do not know when they will eat next. The spread of Covid-19 has worsened the situation.
Stories of people whose lives are being positively impacted by ministry partners are available on the MENA Facebook page.
“We are so grateful for all the Covenanters in the United States and Canada who showed such wonderful generosity,” Anderson said. “This will bring the love of God in real ways to hungry people.”
