Ignite the Awe
Read: PSALM 90:1-8, 12
Today’s psalm is designed to awaken our sensibilities to the majesty and grandeur of God. Maybe like me, you spend most of your days consumed by your schedule and to-do list, placing significant emphasis on things that quickly fade. I’m not saying those things don’t matter; after all, there might be consequences if you don’t do them! But the psalmist reminds us that we are like a dream in the night, like grass that flourishes in the morning and by evening has withered and faded. In comparison, God is from everlasting to everlasting, our dwelling place in every generation, from before the earth was even formed.
This is a good reminder for us to not be consumed by activities that we have convinced ourselves are the most important. Instead, let us set our attention on God’s majesty, that God might teach us to count our days so we may gain wise hearts.
God, kindle our awareness of your majesty, that we may not be consumed by our daily schedules. AMEN.
