Jesus Has Authority Over Systems

Jesus Has Authority Over Systems

October 26

Read: MATTHEW 21:23-27

Jesus was making use of his last days of his earthly ministry by healing, preaching, and purifying the temple from destructive practices. This does not go unnoticed by those who most benefited from the established religious system and structure. So they demand an answer. “Who do you think you are?” they ask. “What right do you have to upset our systems?” Jesus sees through their disguise and refuses to answer them. He takes command of the conversation because he has the power and authority to know the conditions of their hearts and the motivations behind their actions. He will not be manipulated, controlled, or drawn into pretense. He will not entrust himself to them. We are left with the difficult truth that Jesus will not play by our rules.

Forgive me, Lord, when I confuse my place before you. You are the King I serve. Help me to humbly follow you and trust you to do the work in me that you determine to be necessary. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and lead me in your paths. AMEN.
