True Mercy Is Everlasting
Read: PSALM 78:1-7
“He established a decree in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children; that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and rise up and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God” (vv. 5-7).
Today’s passage stresses the importance of passing God’s teachings down to each new generation. It also emphasizes sharing stories of “the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done” (v. 4). I wonder if we don’t often share testimonies about receiving God’s mercy because it might reveal some of our previous sins and missteps. However, since there is “no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1), might we be encouraged to tell the next generations about God’s glorious acts of mercy in our lives? In doing so, we will see those mercies last forever (Psalm 100:5).
Lord, as we celebrate the joy and peace of your mercy, open up opportunities for us to share your glorious deeds with future generations. AMEN.
