True Mercy Produces Peace

True Mercy Produces Peace

October 16

“Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you” (v. 9).

I’m writing this reflection during a pandemic and global uprising against systemic racial injustice. Now more than ever, it’s easy to look around and see all that is bad, unjust, impure, displeasing, and wrong. Now more than ever, I need to be reminded of Paul’s encouragement to meditate on “whatever is true,” “honorable,” “just,” “pure,” “pleasing,” and “commendable” (v. 8). In doing so, I am earnestly hoping to experience the presence of the God of peace. As I read these words, I am also reminded that even in the midst of the chaos of our world, God continues to pour out mercy, which enables us to continue to strive toward peace.

Lord, as we fix our eyes on the goodness your mercy produces, may we find ourselves surrounded by your peace. AMEN.
