Partners will deliver packages that provide a family with a month’s worth of food
CHICAGO (October 15, 2020) — The Middle East North Africa (MENA) region of Serve Globally will sponsor MENA Monday, a one-day event on October 19, to raise funds in order to help feed people in war-torn Yemen.
Yemen is located on the southern Arabian peninsula, and the United Nations has called the situation there the “largest humanitarian crisis in the world” for the past three years. Fifteen million of the nation’s 30.5 million people do not know when they will eat next. A five-year civil war funded by outside countries has caused the crisis, which has worsened due to the spread of COVID-19.
Money raised on MENA Monday will provide packages of food that will supply a family for at least one month, said Jeff Anderson, regional coordinator. The packages will be delivered by partners who are people of faith, and supplies are primarily sourced in Yemen so that there also is an economic benefit to local businesses.
Stories of people whose lives are being positively impacted by ministry partners are posted on the MENA Facebook page.
People can give online. Checks should be mailed to ECC 8303 W Higgins Road, Chicago, IL 60631 with the notation “MENA Monday/Yemen.”
