Read: PSALM 19

Close your eyes and imagine a rising or setting sun with streaks of clouds that reflect the radiant beams. Maybe the background is an ocean, a prairie, or a mountain. It’s wonderful to behold, isn’t it? Linger there for a while.

Psalm 19 begins with this beautiful picture of all creation working in harmony as a reminder to us: “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1).

Using words like “reviving” (v. 7) and “redeemer” (v. 4), the psalmist reminds us that God is in the business of creating beauty that reflects him. Close your eyes again and imagine yourself. Do you reflect this same kind of beauty? How will God be your redeemer this day? Where do you need reviving to reflect Christ’s redeeming work in your life?

Christ, you perfectly reflect the glory of God for all to see. Help us to reflect you in our lives this day and be pleasing in your sight. AMEN.

Mike Hotz /// I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where I serve as pastor of community life at First Covenant Church of Saint Paul. I am also a spiritual director seeking to help others to more deeply experience God in their lives. In addition to serving God, what I love most in life is my family, bicycling, and photography. My idea of a perfect day would start with some form of physical activity outdoors and finish with friends and family engaged in conversation around a meal.
