An Indisputable Matter

An Indisputable Matter

September 14

Read: ROMANS 14:1-12

Reading this text, we are faced straight on with our desire to be right on disputable matters. It seems that Paul is pointing out that while there are many causes for arguments and disputes, there is only one indisputable matter that should concern us.

In verse 4 Paul speaks of “someone else’s servant” (NIV). That Someone is God, and each of us is God’s servant. We each have our unique orders from God to be obedient to his individual call and timing.

In John 21:21-22, Peter asks Jesus about John, saying, “What about him?” Jesus replies, “What is that to you? You must follow me.” So too, we must not judge, for each of us will give an account of ourself to God.

God understands our differences. Our job is to focus on him and his mercy, and not judge others as they strive to do the same.

Lord, I desire to follow you and be your servant, centering on you and not others. AMEN.
