Remembering the Lord

Remembering the Lord

August 25

Read: ISAIAH 51:12-16

How could we forget the Lord who comforts us, who stretches forth the heavens and stirs the sea? Yet, here, God feels the need to introduce himself, as if somehow we have not met.

In these verses I hear a thunderous voice: “My name is the Lord of hosts!” This is the voice of the captain of angelic warriors—the warriors who ran with me that dark night when my car stalled on the freeway and I ran to the gas station for help. Those same warriors were with me when I arrived in Liberia, alone, late, without luggage or much clothing to wear. Those warriors guarded me when I was disobedient and when I was rebellious.

Forgive me, Lord, for forgetting that you are my maker, that you send the hosts to keep me safe.

Almighty God, forgive us for acting as if we haven’t met. Thank you for being there all the time. In Jesus’s name, AMEN.
