Pain to Peace

Pain to Peace

August 9

Read: PSALM 85:8-13

“Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts” (v. 8).

Every Wednesday I work with students of Carl Sandburg College to plant an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter on campus. As I spend time with these students, I often hear stories of how they were hurt or even exiled from their churches. I am encouraged to watch as they redeem their situations, turning their feelings of exile into peace as they come to experience the church’s interest in them.

The psalmist reminds us that God speaks peace to those who are faithful. God does not tolerate foolishness; God creates spaces where love, truth, and righteousness can transform our pain into peace.

God can turn our pain into peace, and can redeem our exile. Will you let him?

God of transformation, we pray for those who are exiled in our communities. We pray for young people who have been hurt and turned away. Give us opportunities to care for them and show them Christ’s love. AMEN.
