Clocks and Calendars
Read: MATTHEW 13:1-9, 18-23
As Covenanters we affirm the centrality of the word of God. To follow Jesus’s explanation of the Parable of the Sower, we seek to hear and understand the word. It propagates fruitfulness in and through us, individually and collectively.
Centrality becomes real when we spend time with Scripture. When we invest our minutes and days into understanding the word of God more deeply, we gradually align our trajectories with its ever-unfolding story. The Bible is central if it is in the middle of our clocks and calendars.
In seasons of uncertainty, the ability to interpret Scripture is an existential need. Hearing and understanding the word is like building an ark to carry us through life’s storms of disequilibrium. With the guiding presence of the Holy Spirit, the Bible helps us make sense of things.
Claiming faith as one’s own includes a determination to integrate Scripture into everyday life. It is to be shaped by the word of God.
God, plant your seeds of truth and grace in us. AMEN.
