Are You Ready? How about Now?

Are You Ready? How about Now?

July 9

Read: MATTHEW 10:40-42

Pastor Karau is a friend in Kenya who planted a church in the Nairobi slum of Mathare from which eleven other churches have started. Additionally, he and his wife, Edith, have raised twenty-four children who were orphaned. He once told me that westerners seem to think there is always more preparation necessary before making a decision—more to read and consider, which results in making people risk adverse and slow to act.

As Christ’s representatives, we may be received as an ambassador of Christ, or, as we find in Matthew 10:14, we may be rejected. The full passage underscores we are a sent people. Another truth underscores this passage: Jesus never asks if we are ready. Throughout the Gospels, Jesus leads and sends his followers into situations that align with his timeline for their growth and kingdom impact, rather than respect for any human master plan, individual or otherwise.

Sustainer God, thank you for the call you give to all who follow you, enable me to say yes without reservation or hesitation. AMEN.
