Read: ROMANS 1:16-17

When I became a Christian at age twenty-six, it was kind of scary. The people I hung out with were musicians and writers who claimed no need for religion and lived totally in and of this world. My new faith put a strain on an already broken marriage, and I ended up a divorced mother of a toddler and with few friends.

But God took care of me. I met new people who showed me how to live in but not be part of this world. I met a woman at work who had been a Christian most of her life. She was strong, unapologetic, and thoughtful, living her faith in all situations. She was just the person I needed in my early Christian walk. She embodied Paul’s powerful statement in today’s reading: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel.”

God, thank you for offering salvation to everyone who has faith. Help us all to not be ashamed of this precious gift you have given us. AMEN.
