Read: Matthew 28:16-20

The more I study and reflect on the Gospels, the more I see how much Jesus was drawn to people at the margins. Jesus regularly engaged with people who were dismissed, ignored, and not valued. Throughout his ministry, Jesus shows us we are to stand with the least of these. Jesus shows us that the good news of the gospel is for all of creation. Here at the end of the Gospel of Matthew, we read the great commission. Jesus is telling his disciples (and us) that everything on earth is under his authority. And because we are co-laborers with Christ from the beginning, we are to go out and share that authority with everyone. This is a beautifully inclusive command: “Make disciples of all nations.” This means we are to make disciples of those who look like us and those who don’t.

Jesus, you regularly went to the margins to share the good news of your gospel. Help us to do the same in our communities. AMEN.
