Spiritual Thirst

Spiritual Thirst

Wednesday, June 3

Read: John 7:37-39

As I write today, I am well aware that I am dehydrated. I am thirsty and have an annoying little headache demanding that I pay attention and take action. My body needs water!

Water is essential for human life. It is necessary for our bodies to function properly, and ignoring the signs of dehydration can have detrimental effects. They say that by the time we feel thirsty, our body is already dehydrated.

Dehydration of the Spirit is not much different. We experience symptoms like sadness, anxiety, impatience, or indifference. The fruit of the Spirit becomes less bountiful. These are signs that we are spiritually thirsty and need to drink from the living water. It’s the Spirit’s way of calling us back to the source of all goodness and the Giver of life.

“Come to me,” Jesus says, “and drink from the water of life.”

Jesus, thank you for the invitation to come to you and quench our thirst with the Spirit of life. AMEN.
