Are You Listening?

Are You Listening?

Sunday, May 31  |  Pentacost

Read: Acts 2:1-4

“A sound like the blowing of a violent wind….tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them” (vv. 2-3, NIV). What powerful imagery used to depict the coming of the Holy Spirit!

So often, this is the expectation we have, that an encounter with the Holy Spirit must be big and bold. With such high expectations, we may miss the subtle nuances of the Spirit at work. While God may indeed work in such spectacular ways, it’s just as likely that we’ll experience the power of the Holy Spirit through more subtle interactions like gentle whispers, nudges of the heart, or intuitions. These subtle nudges are just as powerful as those that come with remarkable grandeur, but our hearts and our minds must be willing to receive them.

Are you listening with a disciple’s heart, prepared to see the ways in which the Holy Spirit speaks into your life?

Lord Jesus, help me to see the ways the Holy Spirit is working in my life. Amen.
