Indwelling God

Indwelling God

Friday, May 22

God appears again. Jesus tells his disciples that as they see him, so have they seen God, the one who sent him. God is revealed in Jesus Christ. Loving God and keeping God’s commandments is the key that unlocks every door. Those who love God receive the presence of God in the Holy Spirit. To those who do not believe, God remains hidden. As Jesus says, “Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you” (v. 17, RSV).

Jesus tells the disciples that, unlike the forlorn prophet in Lamentations, God has not left them desolate. The Holy Spirit is their constant companion. Jesus knows he will be hidden from the world’s sight, but his disciples will see him because he will live in them.

Thank you, Lord, for your eternal presence revealed in Jesus Christ and sustained in us by your Holy Spirit. Amen.
