Read: Acts 7:55-60

Suffering comes in all packages. We suffer from illnesses and disease, we suffer in relationships with unresolved wounds, we suffer from our own choices and because of others’ choices, and we suffer under broken systems and systemic beliefs.

Suffering will never go away and there is no comprehensive answer as to why there is suffering in our lives and world. We do know that Jesus was no stranger to suffering. Stephen suffered because of others’ actions. He looked up and saw the “Son of Man standing at the right hand of God” (v. 56). If you could raise your head and look around in your current place of suffering, where might you see Jesus standing?

Maybe he stands beside you in the failures of injustice. Maybe he stands between you and one who verbally assaults you, filtering lies from truth before it reaches your heart. Maybe he is going before you to prepare a way for your witness and words.

Jesus, show us where you stand. Amen.
