Picture little kids playing in a sprinkler, hydrant, or fountain. Add a puppy to the scene if you’d like. Think about what they look like, how they run and splash and squeal with joy. A favorite word: joy.

Joy in all situations can be hard to find and even harder to keep. We become sad, frustrated, or angry, and our behavior reflects this, both to others and to God. We focus on our own situation and what we can or cannot do in it. We forget that Christ is with us in all things, times, and places and that he loves us unconditionally.

There will be times when the path is difficult. Our life in Christ contains no guarantee of ease. When we reflect on the wonder and beauty of the world God has created for us, we can find his joy. Trusting that he loves and is always with us puts us on the solid ground we need to face any storm.

Jesus, remind me to seek your love and find your joy in all times and places. Amen.
