I love surprises. Giving or getting them, it’s all good. I’m pretty good at hiding anything for a surprise later on—sometimes too good. Last Easter I lost something I had hidden. This past Christmas, I found it. Needless to say, my son was a bit confused by a chocolate Easter bunny in his Christmas stocking. When I explained what had happened, we had a good laugh.

That wasn’t how I felt last Easter. I got upset with myself when I couldn’t find it—I had to remind myself it was only a chocolate bunny and not the Hope Diamond. And all the time it was right there—just where I left it.

We think of our lives and feelings differently than Christ would. We can feel lost and alone, but we never really are. He found us and gave us new life forever. He is right there, just where he wants to be. He never leaves, never loses us. We just forget where we last saw him.

Christ, remind me that I was the lost thing and you found and keep me with you always. Amen.
