A Light for Justice

A Light for Justice

Monday, April 6

When I was around twenty, I took my first mission trip. As a kid who grew up in a lower socioeconomic bracket, I thought I understood poverty. Traveling to other states and countries taught me otherwise. Coming home, I realized the poor live among us everywhere. God stoked a fire in me through that experience and through God’s word to pursue God’s heart for justice.

God reminds us through the prophet Isaiah that, ultimately, he established his justice through Jesus. Jesus is a light for justice that will never burn out. Through our love for Jesus, justice will rain down because it simply must as a result of our commitment to the gospel.

This Holy Week I want to invite us to reflect on drawing nearer to God’s heart for justice. What could a commitment to pursuing God’s heart for justice look like for you today?

God, give us your heart for justice and the courage to act on it. AMEN.
