Love Leads to Obedience: Palm Sunday

Love Leads to Obedience

Sunday, April 5 | Palm/Passion Sunday

Holidays are tough for me. As a child, I experienced the throes of trauma, so celebratory occasions can bring back some unfortunate memories. In his loving kindness, God gave me examples of believers who demonstrated healthy, godly relationships. After significant growth and spiritual maturity, I learned what true love looks like.

Our Scripture from Matthew reminds me what true love does. True love leads to obedience. What strikes me about this passage is Jesus’s command to his disciples to find a donkey, bring it to him, and answer anyone who questions them unambiguously. When you put yourself in the shoes of the disciples, don’t those instructions seem a bit bizarre? And yet, because of their great love for him, there was no hesitation to obey.

What noise is prohibiting you from obeying God this Palm Sunday? Is your heart in or out of an alignment of love?

Lord, give us steadfast love and wisdom as we seek to obey you this Holy Week. AMEN.
