Obituary: Shirley (Palmer) Hamblen

DALTON, GA (November 28, 2018) – Shirley (Palmer) Hamblen, wife of retired Covenant pastor John Hamblen died Thursday, November 15. She was 72.

Shirley was born in Dalton, Georgia, to George and Ruby (Wofford) Palmer. She was the youngest of nine children and grew up in Dalton, where she was named the “Most Talented” in her graduating class.

A gifted pianist, she earn a bachelor of arts degree in church music and piano in 1968 from Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee.

She and John were married on September 14, 1968. The couple served Kent (Washington) Covenant Church. Previously, they had served Baptist churches in Jefferson City, Chattanooga, and Winchester, Tennessee; Louisville and Middlesboro, Kentucky; and Peachtree City, Georgia. While living in Kent, she had a Creative Memories scrapbook business.

Survivors include her husband and daughter, Jessica Hamblen Klepper.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, at Kent Covenant Church. Interment will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. A previous memorial service was held Sunday, November 25, at Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Leesburg.
