Obituary: David A. Elowson

BRADENTON, FL (July 24, 2018) – Retired Covenant Pastor David A. Elowson passed away on July 20, 2018.  He was 84.

He was born February 9, 1934 to Carl and Helen Elowson in Duluth, Minnesota.  He grew up attending First Covenant Church- Duluth.  He attended North Park Jr. College.  He received his undergraduate degree at University of Minnesota-Duluth and went on to North Park Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Divinity.  He was ordained in 1961.

David married Marjorie Gustafson on April 21, 1956.

David served Covenant churches in Bemidji, Minnesota; Pompano Beach, Florida, West Peabody, Massachusetts, Plymouth, Minnesota; and Bradenton, Florida. (Trailer Estates Covenant and Tri-Par Covenant in Sarasota).

David is remembered for his warm smile, his humble spirit, his devotion to and love for his family. He was a life-long learner who enjoyed music, history and above all books.

In addition to his wife, Marge, he is survived by his three children.  Tom (Robin) of Boca Raton, Florida, Laurie (Keith) Bakken of Park Ridge, Illinois; Steve (Susan) of Flagstaff, Arizona; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.  Also surviving are his twin brother Charles (Ardis) of Minneapolis, and a sister, Alayne of Northbrook, Illinois.  He is preceded in death by his sister Joann (John) Hendrickson.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Edgebrook Covenant Church Chicago, Illinois. Another service will be held at Trailer Estates Covenant Church in Bradenton, Florida, in the fall at a date to be determined.  Memorial gifts can be given in pastor Elowson’s name to North Park Theological Seminary for scholarships or Evangelical Covenant Church- Serve Globally for pastoral education in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

  1. So sorry to hear of the death of my cousin Dave. I grew up with Dave and his twin brother, Charlie, years ago. Dave is a credit to the Swedish Covenant Church and will be missed! Love to Marge and the family. Larry and Ann Dahlin

  2. Heaven’s gain is earth’s loss. Dave (along with you, Marge) was a very enjoyable part of the meetings we attended with you in Florida. His personal warmth and ready laughter were gifts to me. Grace to you.
