Holmlund-Daryl

Daryl teaches science and English in a job-training program for young adults who didn’t graduate from high school but are now trying to get their diplomas. “It’s inspirational to see students who are dealing with difficult circumstances, yet choose to return to school to improve their lives and the lives of their children.”

He says Fountain of Life Covenant Church brings together all of the best things of the ECC. “I love the diversity of viewpoints I get from my mid-week life group as we study Scripture together. I also love playing bass and guitar in the band at church because we play a variety of styles, mixing Latin and Spanish language music with gospel and contemporary Christian worship music.”

He wrote the song “No More Wheelchairs,” inspired by his Sunday-school students who wanted to cheer him up after a 2004 car accident permanently damaged his spinal cord.

Both churches and schools need caring, competent, and passionate people who are willing to be servants and to put others before themselves, he says. “You probably won’t ever make six figures as a teacher, but it will keep you young, humble, and full of life.”

Books on your nightstand/e-reader: Zlata’s Diary, Zlata Filipovic; Novum Testamentum Graece; Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer
Favorite way to waste time: Swim, handcycle, play music, sleep
Favorite TV show: I don’t have a TV, but I’m a pretty big sports fan
Choose a superpower—fly or be invisible: I would definitely choose to fly. Being invisible could be a lot of fun, but it would probably be a temptation to cause mischief. Flying would just be awesome.
