CHICAGO, IL (September 5, 2017) — With current Covenant president Gary Walter set to retire next summer, the nomination process for a successor is underway. Composition of the 27-member Presidential Nominating Committee (PNC) is now complete.
The PNC is charged with identifying one candidate to be presented to next year’s Annual Meeting. Additional nominations may be made from the floor.
The composition of the PNC is mandated by the Covenant Constitution and Bylaws. The Covenant Executive Board has 12 representatives. Four spots are allocated for one representative from each additional board elected by the Annual Meeting (North Park University, Ordered Ministry, Benevolence, and Pension/Benefits). Each of those boards selects its own representative. Finally, each of the 11 regional conferences is represented by the chair of the respective conference executive board.
“We thank God for the gifted women and men selected and affirmed by their respective boards to serve in order to fulfill this important function,” said Rebecca Gonzalez, who provides governance support to the PNC through her role as Corporate Secretary and ECC Executive Director of Operations.
The PNC will hold its first meeting in October, when a chair will be selected and the PNC will determine its timeline and process. Historically this has included the opportunity for people throughout the Covenant to nominate names for consideration. Details will be forthcoming.
Members of the PNC are: Executive Board representatives Rachel Burke, Lance Davis, Donna Erickson, Paula Frost, Roberto Ghione, Doris Granberry, Jeff Houston, Alice Lee, Juana Nesta, Phil Print, Valerie Thomas, Dwain Tissell; affiliate board representatives Robert H. Anderson (Covenant Ministries of Benevolence), Mary C. Miller (North Park University), Tom W. Nelson (Covenant Pension and Benefits), Steve Wong (Board of the Ordered Ministry); and Conference board representatives Terence Barg (Canada), Harvey J. Fiskeaux (Alaska), Clive Grimbleby (Pacific Southwest), Greg Harper (Southeast), Eugene P. Kim (East Coast), Kristin King (Midwest), J.T. Madison (Great Lakes), Phil Mallory (Midsouth), Rebecca Nakamura (Central), Gail Ohta (Pacific Northwest), and Jim Volling (Northwest).
