DES MOINES, IA (July 1, 2017) – Pastor Craig and Karen Vote are recovering at a local hospital from injuries they suffered on Thursday afternoon when Craig had to lay down the motorcycle they were riding after a semi-trailer pulled in front of them on a rural road.
The Votes serve the Harcourt (Iowa) Covenant Church.
Craig suffered fractures around his right eye and skull and broken ribs, along with severe road rash, said Richard Moore, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, Iowa. Karen suffered several broken ribs and other injuries as well.
Family members posted on Facebook that the couple Facetimed with each other in the hospital because they couldn’t go to each other’s rooms. Craig retains his sense of humor, they said, telling nurses that he had to leave by Sunday because he had to preach.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office report, the Votes were approaching an intersection when the truck pulled in front of them. Craig was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Karen was transported by ambulance.
The truck driver was cited for failure to yield on a left turn.
