Local Church Anniversary Books in New Digital Collection

CHICAGO, IL (January 23, 2017) – F. M. Johnson Archives and Special Collections has a new digital collection of Covenant congregation anniversary books.

“They give you a glimpse of what was happening in the ECC at the local level—who the pastors were, who led Sunday school, what the musical organizations were, when the church addition was built,” said Anna-Kajsa Anderson, director of archives and special collections at North Park University. “The length and contents vary from book to book, but all have the flavor of the church that published it.”

The collection will have particular interest for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of their home church, Anderson said.

In addition to the digital collection, Anderson said, “I would venture to say we have hundreds of church anniversary books in the Covenant Archives and Historical Library.” The physical collection and other archival material is located in the basement of the Brandel Library on the North Park University campus.

Anderson said selections from the physical collection published before 1964 will continue to be digitized through the rest of 2017.
