PHOENIX, AZ (June 25, 2016) – Retiring missionaries Fred and Kelly Prudek and Tim and Andrea Johnson were honored today during the 131st Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
The Prudeks served in Prague, Czech Republic, from 1994 to 2016, and were some of the first missionaries in the country following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1992. Fred planted two churches and taught at the Evangelical Theological Seminary, the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague, the Theological Seminary of Armenia, and the University of Ubangi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Kelly has worked with Prison Fellowship, which included monthly visits to two prisons to help prepare prisoners for release. She also led and trained an international, ecumenical street team through Porta (the Door), which ministers to prostitutes, and worked with Well, a support ministry for exploited women and victims of crime.
Andrea and Tim Johnson served as missionaries in Japan from 1989 to 2016. Andrea’s ministry included teaching at the Japanese Women’s University and churches, offering spiritual direction, bringing women to Triennials, and caring for families of children with learning disabilities and other special needs.
Among his many ministry activities, Tim helped lead worship, which included recording accompaniment tracks for churches that have no musicians and concerts. He worked with a local pastor to create a Bible app in Japanese. The Johnsons also helped provide leadership for the Akagi Bible Camp.
