CHICAGO, IL (May 6, 2016) — Covenanters routinely share links to social media articles and videos that Covenant News Service believes may be of interest to others. Each Friday we post five of them. Following is a sample of those submissions—their inclusion does not represent an endorsement by the Covenant of any views expressed.

India’s Answer to Global Warming: Cows That Belch Less

It won’t end rapid climate change, but every little bit helps—even if it is thanks to cows.

From the article: “Scientists at the Cow Research Institute in Mathura, around 100 miles south of New Delhi, are tinkering with cattle feed, seeking a formula that will create less gas for the cows to belch out. This is what happens when, instead of building barriers, love is extended.

From the article: “Syrian refugees across Calgary are now giving what little they have to northern Albertans, after (Rita) Khanchet posted an appeal in Arabic on a private Facebook group.”

“(Canadians) gave us everything. And now it’s time to return the favour,” she wrote.

100-Year-Old Breaks Racing Record

If you want to feel convicted and inspired at the same time, this story is for you.

From the article: “She completed the race against competitors 80 and up in 1 minute and 17.33 seconds — the fastest time recorded for a centenarian. (For comparison’s sake, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt holds the 100-meter world record of 9.58 seconds.)”

How Do You Know You Exist? Animated Homage to Descartes

Why couldn’t every Intro to Philosophy class be taught this way? Of course, there’s no guarantee that Intro to Philosophy or even this link really exist.

From the article: “When you’re awake, you know you’re awake. But when you aren’t, you don’t know you aren’t — so you can’t prove you aren’t dreaming. Maybe the body you perceive yourself to have isn’t really there. Maybe all of reality, even its abstract concepts like time, shape, color, and number, are false.”
