Memorial Service Tuesday for Ray Dahlberg

NORTHBROOK, IL (June 22, 2013) – A memorial service will be conducted this coming Tuesday evening for Ray Dahlberg, executive director emeritus of world mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church, who died Friday evening.

The service will begin at 7 p.m. at Northbrook Covenant Church, 2737 Techny Road in Northbrook, Illinois. A visitation will be observed from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the Northbrook church.

“His long tenure of global engagement was driven by a deep heart for the whole mission of Christ, and managed with administrative acumen,” said President Gary Walter upon learning the news.

  1. Dear Nancy… We were so sorry to hear that you lost Ray. What a great guy with a gentle, sweet spirit. I loved being on a committee with him when he was our North Pacific Conference superintendent. I’m so glad that you and Ray were able to visit us in Lucerne, Switzerland, when we were pastoring the International Church during the ’90s. Great memories. Donna… and Bud

  3. Ray was our “boss”, pastor and friend. We will miss him at our annual gathering with missionaries on Home Assignment. His love for Jesus and the world was demonstrated by his life of service.

  4. I still wish he had taken the call to Turlock a lot of years ago, but God had better plans in store for him. Great to have known him, played golf with him, and worked with him in Covenant administration. Lloyd Ahlem

  6. Ray was a great leader and we enjoyed working with him in World Mission. We first met him when he was still in college and when his family attended Cuyler Covenant Church in Chicago. Our prayers are with his family.

One of Ray’s legacies for the kingdom is the development of Christian radio for the Russian-speaking people’s around the world as he dreamed and schemed with me and Paul Larson to create New Life Radio in Magadan and later Moscow.   8. News of Ray’s death saddened me greatly. He was always a great friend and faithful colleague in ministry. My memories of Ray go back to Cyler Covenant Church in Chicago where he grew-up and I grew-up at neighboring Immanuel Covenant Church. Our prayers are with Nancy and the family, and Rays sisters Peace to his memory….

  9. We got to know Ray during his tenure at Northbrook as pastor of care and visitation. Such a sweet and gentle heart. Our condolences to Nancy and the rest of his family.

  10. So many great memories of Ray. Even as far back as Stony Point Bible Camp in MN. He always made you feel like you were the most important person to be commissioned as a missionary. He was a pastor, friend, and big brother. May God’s love surround you Nancy and your family during this time. He will be missed.

  11. Ray was a wonderful boss and beloved mission strategist as well as a great team leader.
    In 1987 he even took the risk of hiring two women as assistant secretaries for World Mission!
    We will miss you, Ray. God´s blessings on Nancy and the family.
