Church Plant Has Place to Meet – Now Needs Chairs

CHAMPAIGN, IL (May 12, 2010) – Berean Covenant Church was able to hold services on Easter, but not the week after or on Palm Sunday because they didn’t have a place to meet.

The church rented space at the Urbana Civic Center, but it was not always available due to other scheduling conflicts, says Pastor Willie Comer. That has caused multiple problems because visitors never knew when the church actually was meeting.

Given the logistical hurdles, it’s a wonder that the congregation is able to average 40 people on a Sunday. Roughly 25 people participate in the midweek Bible study, which was held at a local library.

Comer is excited that the church, which was planted in February 2009, recently was able to rent a storefront space they can occupy throughout the week, which allows them to hold multiple events, including Sunday worship.

Now, if only they had chairs. “We have no place for the people who will attend to sit,” Comer says.

Purchasing 50 chairs would cost roughly $500, Comer says, but the small congregation doesn’t have the funds yet. He hopes to raise the money or find a congregation that has extra chairs they would be willing to donate.

Anyone interested in donating funds or chairs can email Comer.
